Alex Comfort is best known today as the author of the international bestseller, "The Joy of Sex." But he was also a poet, novelist, biologist, phenomenologist, pacifist, sexologist, nuclear disarmament activist, and one of the most original anarchist theorists of the post-World War II decades. My talk, based partly on my new book, "Polymath: The Life and Professions of Dr. Alex Comfort" (AK Press), traces the development of Comfort's anarchist thought and how it informs current issues including the struggle against the State, gender oppression, and the socially corroding effects of war, violence, and capitalism.
